Some Americans may unexpectedly find themselves cut off from tax credits to help buy health insurance under a new proposal by the Trump administration.聽Currently, the government cannot terminate a consumer鈥檚 tax credits, used to get coverage through the 2010 health care law鈥檚 exchanges, unless it first notifies the person of the exact reason why and how to appeal the decision. The Trump administration鈥檚 plan to聽roll back聽a requirement for employers to include birth control in their health insurance plans is an unconstitutional endorsement of religion, a group of 19 Democratic state attorneys general said.聽Allowing employers with聽religious聽or moral objections to contraception to block their employees from receiving coverage violates the constitutional separation of church and state and encourages illegal workplace discrimination against women, the states said in a brief filed Tuesday in federal court in Philadelphia. More than 55 million women in the U.S. have access to birth control with no out-of-pocket costs through the Affordable Care Act , the states said. (Larson, 11/28)
