The largesse of the pharmaceutical and medical device industry extends well beyond physicians who are paid to deliver promotional talks and consult on their behalf. A patient at an Arkansas hospital diagnosed with Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease prompted all operating rooms to be closed. Washington Regional Hospital representatives said as soon as they got the lab reports Tuesday afternoon, they immediately shut down all operating rooms. The hospital is working with the World Health Organization and the Arkansas Department of health to identify and advise those patients who received care at Washington Regional during the relevant period whether they may be at risk.
