CDC Asks Nursing Homes To Take Steps To Thwart 'Superbugs'
Federal health officials are urging nursing homes to step up their oversight of antibiotic use to prevent outbreaks of 鈥渟uperbugs鈥 that are on the rise nationally. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) issued new recommendations Tuesday aiming to crack down on the improper use of the medications, which can spur antibiotic-resistance illnesses known as 鈥渟uperbugs.鈥 (Ferris, 9/15)
A coalition of organizations and doctors concerned about the overuse of prescription narcotics has called on the U.S. Senate to release records it obtained three years ago as part of an investigation into financial ties between the opioid industry and nonprofit groups that advocated for use of the drugs in treating pain.
