Conservative Pushback On GOP Health Plan May Put Repeal Vision At Risk
Rep. Mark Meadows, who leads a group of conservative House lawmakers, was home in North Carolina about two weeks ago when he learned details of the emerging Republican health-care plan. Mr. Meadows jumped in the car and drove back to Washington, where he said he warned White House officials he couldn鈥檛 support the bill being pushed by House Speaker Paul Ryan. Hill conservatives were just handed the opening they鈥檝e been waiting for: An invitation from President Donald Trump to 鈥渘egotiate鈥 on an Obamacare replacement. There鈥檚 just one big problem: They鈥檙e all over the place on what they want. The discord on the far-right is becoming a real problem for Republicans. (Bade and Cheney, 3/10)
Rep. Ra煤l Labrador (R-Idaho) voiced his opposition to GOP leadership's plan to repeal and replace ObamaCare Thursday, saying that it doesn't go far enough. "The time is now, the time is today, we need to make sure that we repeal and replace ObamaCare. But this bill is not it," the lawmaker said in an interview with CNN. Labrador maintained that the GOP's American Health Care Act that advanced through a pair of House committees on Thursday merely "amends" former President Obama's Affordable Care Act. (Vladimirov, 3/9)
