Ryan Hedges On Question About Americans Losing Coverage: 'It鈥檚 Up To People'
House Speaker Paul D. Ryan (R-Wis.) said Sunday that he doesn鈥檛 know how many Americans would lose coverage under his proposal to revise the Affordable Care Act, which is under fire from fellow Republicans, AARP and virtually every sector of the U.S. health-care industry. (Snell, 3/12)
鈥淚 can't answer that question," Ryan told CBS News鈥檚 鈥淔ace the Nation,鈥 when asked how many people will lose healthcare coverage. "It's up to people.鈥 鈥淗ere's the premise of your question: Are you going to stop mandating people buy health insurance? People are going to do what they want to do with their lives because we believe in individual freedom in this country.鈥 (Shelbourne, 3/12)
House Speaker Paul Ryan said on CBS's "Face the Nation" that he expects health insurance premiums to eventually decrease after a Republican replacement for Obamacare is put in place. Here was the exchange between the Wisconsin Republican and host John Dickerson on Sunday's show. (Kertscher, 3/12)
鈥淚 believe we can get 51 votes out of the Senate,鈥 Ryan told host John Dickerson on CBS鈥 鈥淔ace the Nation.鈥 鈥淟ook, this is what the legislative process looks like. When you are going through a deliberative legislative process, not ramming and jamming things but going through all the committees, going through the entire process 鈥 people are going to try and negotiate.鈥 Ryan downplayed the opposition to the House bill as typical 鈥渘egotiations and compromises.鈥 (McCaskill, 3/12)
